LO2 - Distinction Criteria

Yorkshire lasses follows the genre of a soap opera because it uses a shot reverse shot editing technique. Our rushes show that we followed the conventions of a teen drama/soap opera. It reflects the purpose as these rushes convey a teen drama and its conventions such as themes and camera work. The close up camera shots fit the genre as they are able to capture the emotions of the characters. The shot reverse shots show a conversation, this could convey intimacy and tension. Also it fits the teen drama genre as they are able to capture the attitude of the girls. In terms of mise-en-scene we used high key lighting to connote that it is daytime and that although the episode can convey some serious themes, it is also to show the scenes, especially the nail bar, to be quite lighthearted. We used background music for sound in the nail bar scene to show the conventions of a nail bar and to add a bit more to that scene. a convention of the genre is lighting. A lot of soap operas have natural lighting. So when making the show we did have to use the soft boxes because there wasn’t enough natural light. We successfully gave the illusion of natural light.
